Designed a set of functional benches utilizing historic oak wood, to celebrate RIT’s 50th anniversary. From start to final concept in 151 hours. Focused on ideation and final model.
Our design goal was to create a space for interaction. We also wanted to show the monumental quality of the benches, often seen in Wendell Castle's work as he was a part of this project briefly before his passing.
Over the summer, we continued work on production of the benches. I worked as communications manager to work with RIT grounds and faculty to get the project up and running. The end product was produced through using a concrete mold, steel brackets and the wood from the historic oak tree.
